Founded by Harry Weatherhead in 1876, Weatherheads Butchers of Pateley Bridge is a traditionally run family business with an acclaimed reputation for the quality and excellence of its products.

The business has passed from generation to generation and is continued today by brothers Ian and Brian Weatherhead. Leading the fifth generation, Ian’s son Andrew runs the family’s own small slaughterhouse.

Weatherheads are frequent buyers of Champion cattle, sheep and pigs – providing additional stock from the pastures of the naturally run family farm, less than a mile from the shop.

In time honoured tradition, the trusted recipes which have served each generation form the basis of the extensive range which is hand-made and cooked on the premises.

The famous and best selling Weatherhead pork pies have had this poem of praise written by regular customer Gordon Charlston:

If tha's goin up inta t'dales, I'll give
thee some good advice,
Call in at first at Patela, bottom
o t'street, for some pies.
That's nivver tasted owt like 'em,
they're grand - especially warm,
When ya bite inta 'em, by gow _
t'juice runs reet darn ya arm.
They gerin ya mouth lads, so tek
some more for ya tea,

To shop here is a must, for in addition to the variety of fine fare, there is the happy ring of cheerful banter and endearing northern wit, liberally dispensed with a standard of service long lamented elsewhere. Popular TV personality Janet Street-Porter, in a recent ‘Times’ article, named Weatherheads her favourite shop of any in the country.
